A Recap in Review
Sometimes when I get home after a gig, it’s hard to fall right to sleep. So if I feel like it, I’ll write up a quick summary of that night’s show or if I’m just sitting around the next day I’ll do it then. Along with recording my stand up spots this is something I’ve always tried to do on a regular basis. Looking back at them long after the fact is fun for me and it helps remind me of the crazy journey this whole thing has been. Get a little taste of Slatedale, Pa. Where? Exactly.
This past weekend I was in Slatedale, PA with a buddy of mine and
comedian, Mark Riccadonna and a very funny headliner, Keith Purnell.
I experienced my very first flat tire on the way there. Marc and I
were on our way to the show when we heard what sounded like a small
animal hitting the side of the passenger side rear tire. I thought
maybe some daredevil possum tried to get across the road, underneath
our car, and was lucky enough to not be run over, yet dumb enough to
run straight into the tire. Would’ve been an interesting mix of bad
and good luck for the possum…had there been one at all.
Turns out we had a flat. Great. It’s cold out. We’re in the middle
of the turnpike. The ‘Fix A Flat’ is completely ‘Frozen’. After
quite the delay, a tow truck finally came and fixed it. Although
judging by our tow guy it would appear the tow company’s dental plan
could use some work, their performance with spare tires is very
impressive. We were on our way…to arrive at our
destination…Slatedale, PA…
…eventually.
Long story, already long, with a poor attempt to shorten…we got
lost. REALLY lost. Roads curved all over, side streets that
could’ve been continuing roads came out from everywhere, no street
lights to be found. We showed up to the gig a half hour after it was
supposed to start. The audience was great though. They understood
how hard their town is to find apparently and gave us a standing ovation just for walking through the door. Sweet.
The show rocked. About 200 people, all drunk and ready to have some
fun. I’d go back to Slatedale in a heartbeat. But during the day
and definitely with a map this time.
